Leo Susser- President and Founder

Picture
Hi, I’m Leo Susser. I founded Growing with Financial Literacy because I am passionate about giving every child, regardless of their background, the opportunity to achieve financial success. As a middle schooler, I spent all the money from my first job on fleeting, meaningless "junk," leaving me without funds for the experiences I truly desired. While this wasn’t catastrophic, it made me realize how vital budgeting and planning ahead are. This personal experience inspired me to empower other young people with the financial knowledge and skills they need to build a secure and fulfilling future.
Outside of school, I have had the opportunity to work with Professor Joan Costa-Font at the London School of Economics, where I conducted behavioral economic research on the effects of cigarette bans on the rise of electronic cigarette use. I founded the first High School Nudgeathon, a behavioral science competition aimed at reducing teenage substance abuse. Additionally, I work alongside my school's special education class to support and enhance their educational experiences. I am also a Lab Member at USC's Los Angeles Behavioral Economics Lab.
Beyond my academic and research endeavors, I play varsity tennis and competitive bridge, ranking among the top 25 in California. I also attended the University of Chicago summer program, which furthered my academic interests. Currently, I serve as president of Tamalpais High School's Computer Science, Bridge, and Music Together Clubs. My goal is to create positive radical for all people.

Tula Peltz - Vice President

My name is Tula Peltz and I am a junior at Tamalpais High School. I am passionate about financial literacy because I believe in helping every kid reach their potential and help combat financial inequalities. Outside of school, I am part of the Restrictive Covenant Project, a Marin County-run internship, that focuses on creating high school curriculum on the history of local redlining, and the impacts on our society today. At Tam I play basketball and run cross country. I have really enjoyed working with the kids at Willie Brown Middle School and Vision Academy, and have had lots of fun teaching and seeing our impacts.

At Growing with Financial Literacy I help make curriculum and am starting a class at my local library for middle schoolers.  Currently I am high school student with a passion for math and business. I have tutored kids ranging from 5-17 in the past. My interest in financial literacy originates from courses at the Wharton School of Business and my own investing and research. Sebastian is teacher of the year for 2024.
